Establishing a solid foundation for effective skilled services with optimal outcomes begins with a Rehabilitation Department that can understand the unique care needs of our geriatric clients. Our therapists understand that the desire to return home is a strong motivator. They approach each customer with that in mind. Our outcomes have been phenomenal with the majority of our healthcare clients returning to their former living accommodations.

 

Sonterra Health Center now provides VitalStim Therapy to clients with swallowing disorders. This form of neuromuscular electric stimulation is FDA approved and provided by Licensed Speech Therapists who are trained and certified to provide VitalStim Therapy. It has been found to be an effective and efficient means, in conjunction with traditional speech therapy exercises, of treating severe swallowing disorders in qualifying candidates.

 THERAPY

Our Director of Therapy Services is Corilynn Savage, MA, CCC-SLP. Ms. Savage received her Bachelors Degree in Communication Disorders and Psychology at the University of Connecticut and her Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Central Michigan University. She has held her Certificate of Clinical Competence as an SLP for 9 years, and has specialized in communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in the geriatric population, primarily in the skilled nursing environment. She became VitalStim certified in 2007.
